What is Demurrage?
Demurrage is determined by calculating the amount
of time between the discharge of equipment from a vessel and its
removal from the carrier's terminal. During this period, carriers
provide a standard period of free-time for customers to remove
containers from the terminal without incurring charges.
CCS scans the records of shipments not removed
from terminals within the prescribed free-time and performs an
evaluation to determine whether invoicing is required. Shipments
without exceptions are invoiced by CCS and A/R procedures initiated.
